Westwood Community Gardens - Can You Dig It?
This is the best time to get involved in our new Westwood Community Gardens on 2163 Harrison Ave (Northwest Corner of Harrison Ave and Talbott Ave). We have filled each of the 22 beds with a mixture of high quality top soil and composted organic leaves, there is water now on site and lots of sunshine and time to plant for the fall growing season. Read below for more details - and share this email with your neighbors. Here are the rules:
1. The Westwood Community Garden will be open as early as the soil can be worked in the spring. The Site Manager or Garden Coordinator will notify all Westwood Gardeners of the date.
2. Westwood Gardeners from the previous year will have first choice for plots. All remaining plots
will be assigned on a first come first serve basis.
3. No plot can be gardened until plot fees are paid. There is a $25 Annual Fee for the season that
is non-refundable.
4. If a plot has not been planted within the first 30 days of opening, the gardener will be given a 2
week notice to either plant or vacate the plot. After the 2 week notice has expired, the plot will
be reassigned and the original fees will not be refunded.
5. Each Westwood Gardener is required to volunteer 16 hours per season to help with general
maintenance of the Westwood Community Gardens.
6. Put all trash in trash areas. Put all weeds in the compost area. Keep all paths weeded.
7. Do not plant large bushes or trees in your plot that would significantly shade other plots.
8. Please use water only as you need it.
9. The use of pesticides and fertilizers are ABSOLUTELY FORBIDDEN! Use only organic material. If you have any questions contact the Site Manager or Garden Coordinator.
10. You are welcome to have other people help you garden your plot but they all must sign off on
the rules of the garden and be introduced to the Site Manager or Garden Coordinator. The Site
Manager or Garden Coordinator will notify all Westwood Gardeners of this date.
11. You cannot take vegetables or plants from another person’s plot without their permission.
12. All stakes, string and personal items must be removed by the end of the season.
13. No dogs or other pets are permitted in the Westwood Community Garden. Tobacco, alcohol
and drugs are strictly prohibited in the garden. No bikes, skateboards, etc. are allowed in the
garden. No growing of illegal or poisonous plants is allowed in the garden.
14. Children are welcome in the Westwood Community Garden, but must be with an adult at all
times. You are responsible for your children and must make sure they respect other people’s
plots.
15. Guests of gardeners are welcome to the Westwood Community Gardens but must follow the
same rules as the gardeners.
16. Breaking of any rules will result in expulsion from the Westwood Community Gardens and a
forfeiture of plot fees.
